The role
The Workshop Leading Hand plays a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the workshop. This position involves guiding, coaching, and managing team members to ensure efficient operations, adherence to processes, and the achievement of performance targets. The Leading Hand plays a critical role in maintaining a positive work environment, fostering employee development, and contributing to the overall success of the department.
This Full-time role follows 8 days on 6 days off, working 12.25 hours per day. The 8th day is approximately 6 hours. Please note: This role is based in Orange, NSW where the preferred candidate is based locally. There is a chance for DIDO, however all travel and accommodation will be at the employee’s expense.
Areas of responsibility:
Creates a Safety-First culture:
- Cultivate and maintain a safety-first culture by actively leading safety initiatives such as journey management planning, completing pre-starts and risk assessments.
- Enforce EHS protocols and compliance with relevant regulations during service visits.
- Enforcing EHS KPI’s (ensuring technicians maintain use of ROAM app, take 5s, safety observations, incidents, prestart etc.)
- Conduct regular safety training sessions and promote a safety-first culture within the team.
Job Management:
- Assist in the Planning and allocation of service and maintenance tasks to technicians based on job requirements and team capacity.
- Ensure optimal utilisation of resources to meet service level expectations and deadlines.
- Assist in the Planning and scheduling of jobs to meet delivery targets.
- Monitor work progress and adjust schedules as necessary to address changing priorities.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of service activities, including service reports, work orders, and customer feedback.
- Monitor projects / jobs to ensure compliance with costing and time schedules including bill of materials, delivery schedules, efficiencies and sequences of operation.
- Ensure effective WIP management, and that completed work is invoiced promptly with the aim to achieve invoicing targets each month.
- Create job estimates, quotes and schedules.
- Raise and receipt purchase orders for external suppliers.
Technical Support:
- Provide technical guidance and support to technicians to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Assist in diagnosing and resolving technical challenges that may arise.
- Stay updated with industry trends and new technologies to enhance the team's expertise.
Quality Assurance:
- Maintain high-quality standards for all work produced in the workshop.
- Implement and enforce quality control procedures and conduct regular inspections to identify and resolve quality issues.
- Implement corrective actions to address any deviations from quality standards.
Customer Relationship Management:
- Collaborate with the customer service team to understand customer requirements and provide timely updates on project status.
- Build strong customer relationships by demonstrating professionalism, effective communication, and responsiveness. Address customer concerns and inquiries as needed.
- Work collaboratively with cross shift to ensure smooth transition of work in progress and key issues.
Workshop management:
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of workshop equipment and tools. Schedule routine maintenance and coordinate with external service providers when necessary.
- Monitor and control workshop inventory, including consumable materials and tools. Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely availability of required items.
Your profile
- Trade Qualification (Engineering or automotive trades) or similar
- Success in a previous similar supervisory role. Heavy mobile equipment workshop preferred.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to client sites as required.
- Leadership: The ability to lead and motivate a team of technicians, mechanics, and support staff to achieve common goals while fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Communications: Effective verbal and written communication to convey ideas and information and influence stakeholders
- Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, work under pressure, and adjust to unexpected challenges in the workshop.
- Conflict Resolution: The ability to address conflicts and disagreements among team members and resolve them in a constructive manner.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities to keep track of tasks, projects, and documentation in a well-structured manner.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in using relevant computer applications and software for workshop management, record-keeping, and reporting.
- Customer Focus: Understanding customer requirements, maintaining open communication with customers, and addressing their concerns and inquiries in a professional manner.
- Time Management: Effective time management skills to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and ensure efficient workflow in the workshop.
