Sandvik Mining & Rock Solutions (SMR) is a leading supplier in equipment and tools, services and technical solutions for the mining and construction industries. Our application areas include rock drilling, rock cutting, crushing, and screening, loading, and hauling, tunnelling, quarrying, and breaking and demolition. To our Rock Tools division and the Production Unit in Patancheru, we are now looking for a Senior Engineer - Production Technology to join us.
Your scope:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Manufacturing Process Development Engineer with expertise in machining processes. This role involves developing and improving effective and safe manufacturing methods for both new and existing products, with a strong emphasis on CAM machining and CAD experience. Staying up to date with the latest trends in manufacturing and implementing new technologies to enhance our processes is crucial.
To be more specific, your main responsibilities to handle in this position are:
- Drive best EHS practices, identify and report hazards, and align with Sandvik’s standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments (R&D, production, QA & QC, maintenance, purchase) on manufacturing engineering activities for the production line.
- Perform CNC programming and prove-out of parts as required, including process validation.
- Select machines, jigs, fixtures, and cutting tools for machining on modern CNC machines using manual/CAM-generated CNC programming methods.
- Manage master data (MBOM/BOP/BOE) in Teamcenter, MDG, and SAP S/4HANA.
- Prepare, release, and maintain process documents such as tooling lists, work instructions, SOPs, and special instructions.
- Support the installation and commissioning of new equipment and train personnel on new/existing equipment and manufacturing methods/processes.
- Focus on continuous improvement to enhance quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
- Support production requirements like fixtures, tooling, processes, and troubleshoot day-to-day shop floor issues.
- Develop competency in multi-tasking machines and drive LEAN manufacturing implementation.
- Conduct data analysis, structured problem-solving, and documentation.
- Improve product quality by identifying manufacturing issues, developing cost-effective solutions, and overseeing successful implementation into production.
- Work with production associates to resolve manufacturing and quality problems related to methods, processes, tooling, equipment, and product design.
- Develop an understanding of process planning activities.
- Ensure right Master data in Teamcenter and SAP S/4HANA, for seamless production.
- Ensure the availability of the latest CNC programs, updated tooling layouts, and SWIs/SOPs for the production shop.
- Ensure system compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001 standards, and SMRTIPL procedures.
Your profile:
A graduate in mechanical or production engineering with minimum of 5 years’ experience from a reputed manufacturing engineering industry. Worked with a strong EHS cultured organization is a distinct advantage and you understand the importance of a diverse workforce and collaborative settings.
Competencies that we find necessary are:
- Advanced knowledge of numerical controlled turning, milling, multi-tasking machines, and inspection equipment/methods.
- Proficiency in CNC program generation for various CNC controls and independent prove-out, with CAM program generation as an added advantage.
- Experience in process planning/design, process drawings, and selection of machines, jigs, fixtures, and cutting tools.
- Experience in new product development and engineering change management.
- Familiarity with modern machine shops, advanced manufacturing techniques, automation, and special manufacturing processes (e.g., grinding, heat treatment, hydraulic press, assembly processes).
- Understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD and 3D modelling in Unigraphics NX, CAM methods, and familiarity with Teamcenter.
- Hands-on experience with modern machine tools and various CNC controls.
- Basic inspection methods and handling instruments and gauges.
- Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing techniques, Six Sigma methodology, and digitalization concepts (IoT).
- Familiarity with DFM, PFMEA, QA&QC procedures, SPC techniques, data analysis, and problem-solving techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, positive attitude, and soft skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office tools.
- Knowledge of international management standards and documentation related to ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001.
- Experience in industrial automation is an added advantage.
