Electro-Mechanical Engineer

Our mission is to advance the world through engineering. Do you share our mission? We are currently looking for an Electro-Mechanical Engineer to join our Batteries & Chargers R&D department.

Your primary areas of responsibility:

You are responsible for designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting current and new mechanical and electro-mechanical designs for battery systems and battery accessories (e.g. chargers and coolers). Your main responsibilities are:

  • Developing complex electro-mechanical systems for HV batteries, including designs, drawings, performance predictions, and verification requirements

  • Leading battery development projects

  • Performing related structural analysis (simple FEA) and classical hand calculations to determine if design meets functional / performance specifications and optimization of design before fabrication

  • Collecting and analyzing data in support of failure analysis, root cause, and corrective action

  • Implementing and validating changes to electro-mechanical designs resulting from troubleshooting efforts, production concerns or issue reports from the field

  • Supporting build and testing of prototypes for batteries, battery chargers, and coolers

  • Designing automatic test or alignment fixtures for misc. electro-mechanical components

  • Coordinating build and testing of prototypes for electro-mechanical subsystems

  • Ensuring that designs and documentation of components and systems meet specified technical customer demands, product safety, legislative requirements, and internal demands

Your background and what we find important:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or similar discipline

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical engineering and design

  • Hands-on experience with mechanical development and design of high voltage batteries

  • Good understanding of HV battery systems is critical to the job

  • Experienced in 3D CAD and PLM systems (NX and Teamcenter is preferred)

  • Experience preparing manufacturing drawings to ANSI Y14.5M drawing standards using GD&T for manufacturing and repeatability

  • Experience in analysis, testing, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and root-causing electro-mechanical systems

  • Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical design principles

  • Basic understanding of EMI & EMC mitigation beneficial

  • Ability to read, analyze and create schematics as well as electrical engineering drawings

  • Proficient in the use of test equipment including oscilloscopes, power supplies, digital multimeter, Hi-pot testers etc.

  • Proficient in the use of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and related software

  • You have good analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail

  • You are a team player and have the ability and self-motivation to learn quickly and independently

  • You demonstrate strong technical leadership skills and a commitment to delivering high quality products while adhering to strict deadlines

  • You foster an environment that welcomes and encourages new and innovative design concepts, inventions, patents, and product opportunities for improvement

  • You possess excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required (max. 10%)

Salary Range: $110,000-$140,000
