Enhancing mining operations with aftermarket solutions

Aftermarket services are essential to keeping mining operations running smoothly. In the latest Meet Sandvik podcast, Simone Tomaz, Vice President of Aftermarket at Sandvik Rock Processing Solutions in Australia, shares insights on her career journey, the role of aftermarket services, and how Sandvik is driving innovation in the field.
Tomaz’s career spans multiple continents and roles. She began her journey at Sandvik in 2007 working in purchasing in Brazil before moving to China to support the launch of a new facility. Eventually, she relocated to Australia, where she now heads up parts, services and consumables, also known as aftermarket operations.
“My career has always been a two-way street, with me contributing with my curiosity and dedication while Sandvik has continually invested in my development,” Tomaz shares.
Delivering value beyond the initial sale
The aftermarket team is dedicated to maintaining equipment performance long after the initial purchase. In Australia, they offer technical support, project management, and in-field services tailored to customer needs.
Customer feedback plays a pivotal role in driving innovation. Tomaz shares an example where premature exciter failures prompted Sandvik to develop maintenance kits that significantly extended equipment lifespan.
“When a customer approached us about extending the lifespan of their equipment, we discovered improper oil change practices were causing premature failures. This insight led us to develop maintenance kits, ensuring cleaner and more effective servicing, turning a challenge into an opportunity for improvement,” she explains.
Advancing sustainability in aftermarket services
Sustainability is a priority, with initiatives such as refurbishment of Screens, Feeders and Exciters and optimizing equipment efficiency.
“Sustainability is a company-wide effort, and our teams are on the front lines of making a difference,” says Tomaz.
Collaboration at the heart of success
For Tomaz, the most rewarding aspect of her role is working closely with customers and driving innovation alongside her team.
“Be ambitious, connect with people, and learn from mistakes. These are the foundations of any high-performing team,” she advises.
