Innovating industry with Seco's Data Matrix
“It is an enabler, and something that is essential to reach industry 4.0 level”, says Micael Baudin, one of the early innovators behind the idea at Sandvik division Seco to laser tag inserts with Data Matrix codes, able to store vast amounts of pertinent information about each individual tool and thereby offering the potential for full traceability.
In this episode Seco Innovation Lab’s Micael Baudin and Jan Gravningsbråten tells us how they came up with the idea of Seco’s data matrix platform and the opportunities it offers in areas such as digital manufacturing and sustainability, for customers as well as for Seco.
“In the recycling process it is really valuable to be able to know exactly what is in the products in terms of chemical content, so we can recycle them in an efficient way,” Baudin exemplifies.
Baudin and Gravningsbråten also talk about some of the main challenges the team have needed to overcome during the development to the ease with which the data matrix codes today can be read with the Seco Assistant App.
