Vice President Sales Southern Africa

The focus lies on bringing value to customers through high-performing products that increase productivity and safety as well as to provide services and flexible maintenance programs that extend uptime and cut costs.

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions Southern Africa is currently seeking a Vice President: Sales - Southern Africa reporting to the Chief Customer Officer (CCO) and will be responsible to develop and implement the sales Area strategy for Southern Africa to achieve the organization’s short and long-term goals at a global level.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT

  • Develop the Sales Area Strategy for Southern Africa, in alignment with the overarching Sandvik Strategy, SMR Strategy and individual Divisional Strategies.
  • Provide input into market dynamics that would drive the business for the overarching Sandvik Strategy.
  • Lead the development of Divisional Sales Strategies through collaboration and consultation with the senior management team, and ensure alignment with the Sales Area Strategy.
  • Produce quarterly strategic reports on the Sales Area Strategy, through the Host Division, to the President of SMR Group.
  • Guide and direct the alignment of sales strategies to market place and approach, and lead changes to rectify strategies thereby ensuring constant alignment.
  • Keep abreast of changing markets and customer needs to maintain a competitive advantage for Sandvik.
  • Lead competence development to ensure staff are fit for business purposes within the Sales Area.
  • Participate in scheduled internal board meetings for each of the entities within the Sales Area.
  • Quarterly strategic reporting with deliverables / KPIs.
  • Sales Area Strategy aligned to overarching Sandvik strategy and SMR strategy.
  • No conflicting divisional sales strategies.

SALES AREA MANAGEMENT

  • Review and monitor sales performance across Southern Africa and within individual Divisions.
  • Ensure senior management are suitably resourced with the required tools, equipment and infrastructure to meet targets.
  • Partner with senior management team to provide guidance on meeting targets and KPIs, amending sales targets and handling escalated blockages i.e. governance issues, internal control matters, etc.
  • Monitor the market place and manage changes accordingly to meet market requirements in the best interests of the business. Lead the preparation and implementation of crisis management plans.
  • Oversee the development of the sales management team to ensure the right people are in the right job, taking the necessary steps to address any issues.
  • Lead the development of policies for the Sales Area pertaining to pricing, products, mix and brand portfolio.

STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS AND COMPLIANCE

  • Participate as a member on the Board of Directors, meeting the necessary reporting requirements to the Board.
  • Oversee compliance with local legislation and alignment to Sandvik targets.
  • Guide Divisions to ensure compliance to local regulations and legislative requirements.
  • Oversee adherence of SA operations to the applicable legislation (i.e. Section 21 of Mine, Health & Safety Act), safety regulations and internal standards and procedures.
  • Produce reports on non-compliance or exceptions or hazards / incidents, providing the necessary action plans to mitigate risks.
  • Represent Sandvik as VP Sales Southern Africa in various forums or in ceremonial duties.
  • Full compliance to local regulations and legislation

STAKEHOLDER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

  • Create a collaborative environment to enhance sales across Southern Africa.
  • Provide leadership in the management of sound business relationships, thereby maintaining the business interests of Sandvik, SMR and the individual Divisions, and ensuring equal and fair representation of parties.
  • Ensure that the necessary changes to the business made take into consideration the needs of all individual internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in engagements with local communities and governments, as and when required.

BUDGET OVERSIGHT

  • Through collaboration with the Head of Finance and Business Control, measure sales growth and identify early warning signals or financial risks to the sales area.
  • Ensure that financial controls are in line with the applicable financial legislation and regulations.
  • Review and approve budget forecasts submitted by senior management.
  • Approve expenses in accordance with delegation of authority.
  • Compliance with financial legislation and regulations.
  • Timeous and accurate quarterly budgets.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  • Manage the recruitment of direct reports (senior management team members), in consultation with the Human Resources Department.
  • Lead, coach and mentor direct reports to foster personal growth.
  • Manage performance of direct reports through the development of performance agreements and conducting performance reviews.
  • Manage the development of Personal Development Plans for direct reports and ensure implementation.
  • Manage the enforcement of discipline of direct reports and attend to grievances in consultation with Human Resources Department.
  • Lead the development of the Succession Plan for the Sales Area - Southern Africa, ensuring a pool of potential leaders.
  • Drive the culture of the Sales Area – Southern Africa that reflects the organization’s global values.

EDUCATION

  • BSc Honours Degree in Mining, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or other Engineering field essential
  • MSc Degree in Engineering or MBA will be advantageous

EXPERIENCE

  • 12+ years’ business management experience within a complex environment, of which 8+ years is in a leadership capacity.
  • Experience within managing business operations across Southern Africa
  • Experience within the mining industry
  • Sales and marketing experience
