Research Engineer – Machine Systems and Measurements, Electrification and Machinery Systems

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions is a leading manufacturer of mining equipment and tools, as well as a provider of maintenance and technical services. Our products include drilling equipment, mechanical excavation equipment, crushers, loading and transportation equipment, and material handling equipment.

The Tampere factory is a global technology and manufacturing centre for drilling equipment, which also houses Sandvik's state-of-the-art Test mine and the new Sandvik Test Pit. In these facilities, we simulate real mining conditions and develop new technologies in a controlled environment. We are also pioneers in battery-electric (BEV) mining machines and aim for half of our underground hard rock mining equipment sales to be BEV machines by 2030. The largest consumer of electrical energy in a mine is typically ventilation. By using battery-electric mining machines, an underground mine can reduce ventilation energy consumption by up to 50%, which can save the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of about 2,000 electrically heated homes!
