R&D Engineer - Wear Protection

Do you want to take part in supporting our global business and customers worldwide? Then keep reading!

At Wear Protection, part of division Screening Solutions within Sandvik Rock Processing Solutions, we’re now looking for an R&D Engineer to strengthen our Competence Center. We specialize in protecting equipment and structures against wear in mineral processing. Our expertise in utilizing a wide range of wear materials enables us to deliver tailored wear-resistant solutions that optimize customers' production performance.

About your job

In this position, you manage and participate in cross-functional development projects, all the way from idea to product launch. Your main focus is to invent or identify technical concepts, convert those concepts into detailed designs, and then validate the designs, either in lab environment or at customer site. You collaborate with other functions, such as Sourcing, Manufacturing, Technical Writers and Product Support, as part of development project scopes, and in daily engineering tasks.
Wear Protection often faces complex challenges related to extreme operating conditions and you play a key role in developing wear-resistant solutions that add true value to our customers. This requires a good understanding of the features of different wear materials, how to turn those features into wear products, and how they fit into different customer applications. To also understand the manufacturing processes is important to be able to make smart and cost-efficient designs. Staying updated on the latest technological advancements and market demands is essential, and you incorporate emerging technologies and practices into the products to maintain a competitive edge, and to strive for a more sustainable business.

The preferred location for this role is Svedala, Sweden. However, we are also open to candidates based close to our offices in Perth, Australia; Johannesburg, South Africa; or Taubaté, Brazil. This position offers a hybrid work environment, allowing you the flexibility to work from home. Please note that occasional travel to visit factories and customers worldwide is required.

About you

We’re looking for someone with a master’s or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, material engineering, or a related field. You have a solid understanding of the R&D process, generic engineering principles and the manufacturing processes we use, which include rubber compression molding, polyurethane open cast molding, metal casting, machining and steel fabrication. Demonstrated proficiency in CAD, preferably SolidWorks, and knowledge of engineering simulation software like Magmasoft, as well as Teamcenter PLM, are considered a plus. A strong knowledge in metal casting process also captures our attention. As our Competence Center is based in Sweden and we operate globally, you need good communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing, while knowledge of Swedish is a plus.

We’re fascinated by your passion and personality – characterized by being positive, innovative and having a strong commitment, and a hands-on attitude. You’re interested in new technologies, and how to convert those in our products. Combine this with a solid technical foundation, self-driven nature, and you’re our ideal candidate for this position.
