System Engineer, Electric Powertrain Technology

The position is in Sandvik’s Turku site which is the main product development and manufacturing center for our Load and Haul equipment. Our mission is to advance the world through engineering. Do you share our mission? Partial remote work is possible in the role, however occasional travel and presence is required in our division headquarters in Turku.

Your primary areas of responsibility

As a System Engineer in the Electric Powertrain Technology team, you work with the software specification work and define engineering-level specifications for electric powertrain control systems. You are motivated to learn how the dump trucks and loaders operate in detail and in a larger high-level scope. Our machines work in underground mines in harsh environment, so the reliability, safety and serviceability must be in high level in all possible cases.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Define the work breakdown structure (WBS) for functional software specification work.
  • Work with the software specification work in machine or module system developing projects.
  • Define the engineering-level functional specifications for battery (hybrid) electric vehicles powertrains.
  • Developing the interfaces for systems modules.
  • Providing hands-on support for the prototype development and testing.
  • Participating in the implementation of the features in the production.
  • Continuously interacting with SW and Test Engineers. Supporting and sharing expertise with other internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain wide understanding and knowledge of machines embedded CAN based control systems. This requires learning and study of the machine SW implementations created by CoDeSys (IEC 61131-3), C++, Qt.

Your background and what we find important

  • A suitable degree in engineering.
  • Few years’ experience with a proven record of working with control system engineering tasks.
  • Knowledge of full electric or hybrid machine, charging systems, battery management systems (BMS) or electric driveline with embedded control systems are seen as a benefit.
  • It would be an advantage if you have knowledge of mobile hydraulics and/or model-based design and Matlab/Simulink.
  • Fluent communication skills in English and Finnish.
  • Proactive, systematic work approach.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well in a multicultural stakeholder environment.
  • Comfortable meeting challenging targets driven by project deadlines in Control System SW development.
  • Willingness to travel for projects, including visits to underground mines.
