Sandvik Mining & Rock Solutions (SMR) is a leading supplier in equipment and tools, services and technical solutions for the mining and construction industries. To our Rock Tools division plant at Patancheru, we are now looking for a Senior Engineer – Quality Assurance, Metallurgy to join us.

Job Purpose:

The aim with the role is to ensure robust quality management in metallurgical processes, including heat treatment, surface engineering, and welding while driving a safety-focused culture within the organization. Oversee metallography lab operations, supplier audits, and process validations to meet the laid standards. Utilize expertise in failure analysis, RCA, and CAPA to ensure product excellence, leveraging skills in SAP and MS Office for data management and reporting. Foster collaboration for sustainable operational success.

To be more specific, your main responsibilities to handle in this position are:

  • Ensure safety, employees health and support all the EHS initiatives along with other employees & maintain communication. Drive EHS culture in the organization.
  • Overall quality control and quality assurance activities for In-house heat treatment plant.
  • Responsible for preparation of required quality plans, inspection procedures and planning for necessary test equipment for heat treatment.
  • Raw material inspections and clearance.
  • Calibration of process & quality control equipment in heat treatment plant.
  • Responsible for periodic product and process audits for steel suppliers, heat treatment, coating and forging suppliers and special metallurgical processes as per plan.
  • Responsible for monitoring of validation and re-validation of special surface engineering processes such as claddings, nitriding and nitrocarburizing, induction hardening etc.
  • Metallography lab responsible for efficient operation by ensuring consumable availability, periodic upgradation, 5S activities, maintenance, documentation, training, calibration etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality data, reports, and records.
  • Responsible in conducting the welding qualifications.

Your profile:

A graduate in metallurgical engineering with minimum of 8 years’ experience in quality function from reputed industry with metallurgical functions. Hands on experience of heat treatment via SQF, metallography, destructive and nondestructive testing. Familiar with welding inspection and qualification methodology Worked with a strong EHS cultured organization is a distinct advantage and you understand the importance of a diverse workforce and collaborative settings.

Other required competencies that we find necessary are:

  • Hands on in heat treatment, carburizing, metallography, NDT Level-II in RT, UT, MPT & DPT.
  • Good knowledge in failure analysis, steel inspection, welding process.
  • Good knowledge in product audit process and in RCA & CAPA.
  • Familiar with ASTM standards for materials and testing methods.
  • Conversant with various heat treatment and surface engineering processes.
  • Good communication (verbal and written) in English is must.Good skill in SAP & MS office.
