Operations Manager, Tampere Production Unit

We are now looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join us in Underground Drilling Division. This is a permanent position based in Tampere, Finland, where Sandvik has a global technology and manufacturing center for mining equipment. In this role you will be leading our Tampere Production Unit. This includes our production activities including production support functions. In this role you manage a team of around 400 Sandvik professionals.

Your mission

As Operations Manager, in addition to production, you will lead S&OP and production planning, procurement of components including inventory management, new product introduction, and material flows to in-house and sub-contracted assembly operations. There is a high focus on production development to ensure continuous development of our safety, quality and productivity of operations.

Your main responsibilities include:

• Lead Underground Division Production Unit in Finland with full responsibility of the operational and cost performance

• Manage following functions in Production Unit; Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP), production planning, procurement, production and delivery, assembly sub-contractor vendor management, and new product introduction

• Develop and execute long-term supply strategy and target setting in accordance with division strategy

• Drive and improve performance to achieve set targets with supply management team, and in cooperation with internal and external stakeholders

• Plan and develop flexibility of the supply network in changing demand and market situations including suppliers, inventories, subcontracted assembly vendors and internal production organization

• Plan needed assembly capacity and headcount, and associated investments. Recommend needed capacity actions as part of the Sandvik financial and division S&OP planning process

• Ensure effective and customer focused S&OP process to enable best possible availability for Sales with a lowest possible cost

• Ensure on time delivery of high-quality products from Production Unit

• Ensure clear and transparent communication to all stakeholders

• Ensure competence development and motivation of Production Unit personnel to comply current and future needs

• Ensure compliance and safety against global and local requirements, and with Sandvik’s standards and policies

Your background and what we find important

You are an experienced leader with hands on experience of managing large and complex operations. You are able to develop your organization ensuring employee competencies and wellbeing. You hold a university degree in a related field, preferably a M.Sc. in Engineering or Management. You have relevant experience and proven results in supply chain and production management. You have a solid understanding of supply chain’s impact on production flow and business. Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, and factory physics as well as strong change management skills is seen as an advantage. You have excellent influencing skills and an ability to develop trusted collaborative relationships with other divisions and business stakeholders. Communicating fluently in Finnish and in English is mandatory.
