Production Supervisor

Job Summary: The Production Supervisor will serve as a cross-functional team leader managing multiple production teams to meet the daily requirements of on-time order completion, quality, labor needs and scheduling, inventory accuracy, and safety. Additionally, the Production Supervisor will assist in launching new business, culture development, succession planning, and be the liaison between employees, company management, and human resources.

Set day-to-day operational objectives to teams of workers/para-professionals/support staff. Supports more senior managers to execute team targets. Solve non-complex problems. Provides input on individual performance, and owns the full employee life-cycle for workers/para-professionals/support staff, including hire/fire, performance management, etc.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Plans and schedules workflow for each department and operation.

  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job requirements with employees.

  • Fosters an open and empowering team environment.

  • Improvement of production methods, equipment performance, workflow, and quality.

  • Evaluate staff performance, compensation, promotion recommendations, hiring, and disciplinary action in accordance with company policy.

  • Maintains time and production records as needed.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily management of people, processes, and tools needed for production and manufacturing projects.

  • Troubleshoot problems, make operational decisions, make corrective actions, and lead continuous improvement projects.

  • Continuously analyze equipment and system performance to ensure optimum reliability, production, and product quality.

  • Provide a safe, clean work environment by maintaining good safety practices, inspecting the workplace, promoting good housekeeping practices, and thorough investigation of all accidents with appropriate corrective action.

  • Develop and maintain an atmosphere of mutual trust, respect, and positive employee relations through open and frequent communications.

  • Analyses work order to estimate worker hours and create matching schedules that meet both internal and external needs.

  • Directs workers in adjusting machines and equipment to repair tools which fail to meet standards.

  • Suggests changes in working conditions and equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department or work crew.

  • Analyses and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.

  • Interprets and enforces company policies and safety regulations.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in management or engineering is preferred but not required.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment; metal manufacturing preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ training or equivalent experience.


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work orders.

  • Strong reasoning ability. Must be able to recognize and diagnose machine adjustment needs during manufacturing operations, products, and equipment.

  • Requires understanding and application of procedures and concepts within own discipline.

  • Applies understanding of team works to achieve the set targets.

  • Leading employees. Manages a team, and adapts plans and priorities to meet operational challenges.

  • Coaches employees to meet daily deadlines.

  • Uses judgment to identify and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problems.

  • Communication and information exchange is usually centered around work tasks.

  • Evaluate and give suggestions to improve methods, tools, and processes.

  • Contribute to the sharing of best practices within your own area.

  • Usually accountable for environment, health, and safety as per local legislation, policies etc.

Physical Requirements:

  • On your feet 80% of the time with some lifting, bending, and twisting.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

  • Ability to stoop, bend or kneel when required.
