Transport / Trade Compliance Specialist

At the SMS Logistics Distribution Center in Hebron Kentucky, we distribute products within the North, South and Central America Regions.

Mission

As a Transport / Trade Compliance Specialist, you will play a critical role in the management, control and analysis of freight costs as well as ensure international transactions are in compliance with all US Customs and Border Protection and other government agencies. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, carriers and customs brokers to drive cost, efficiency, and performance improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Validate invoiced freight costs to ensure accuracy against carrier contracts and communicate with carrier on any billing discrepancies and drive resolution and receipt of corrected billing.
  • Upload invoice data into SAP Transport to Pay module and Power BI Analytics program.
  • Monitor and analyze carrier freight costs and identify trends or anomalies. Provide suggested corrective action to mitigate cost changes.
  • File transportation related claims and work with carriers where patterns in cargo claims are identified.
  • Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including carrier on time performance and freight cost per order line.
  • Perform denied party screening reviews using SAP GTS system and approve or escalate.
  • Coordinate response to customs brokers requests for information or additional documentation, Census Warning and ADD/CVD Case investigations.
  • C-TPAT / Supply Chain Security procedure review and update, including supplier agreements and sustainability audit review.
  • Audit import and export filings as per Sandvik Compliance House requirements and follow up on post entry and duty drawback entries.
  • Identify compliance risk or issues with transport processes and drive process improvement by evaluating potential solutions and implementing improvements.

Your Profile

Associate or bachelor’s degree in business / trade management or more than 5 years related business experience. Industry certifications CEE, CCS, or licensed customs broker a plus. Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power BI. Experience with SAP, JDA, or other ERP systems, as well as CBP ACE system preferred. Flexibility, self-motivation, and pro-active attitude are a must. Excellent English skills both written and verbal are a must.
