Director of Corporate Software License Compliance

The Role

Reporting to the Business Area Segment General Counsel, the Director of Corporate Software License Compliance to establish, lead and manage SMF’s corporate program to track and resolve software piracy of our products. This critical role will focus on developing, implementing and managing the program specific to the industries in which we operate, working closely with senior leadership as a trusted advisor.

Key Performance Areas

  • Establish, lead and manage SMF’s corporate license compliance program.
  • Investigate software piracy and track compliance leads from initiation to resolution.
  • Collaborate with BU Sales Teams to identify non-compliance hotspots and implement corrective strategies.
  • Determine enforcement strategies, balancing internal and external recovery services.
  • Coordinate legal actions for non-compliant activity in partnership with the BA General Counsel.
  • Work closely with attorneys on lawsuits, settlements, and fee negotiations.
  • Lead compliance reporting efforts, providing regular updates to BU Sales Teams and BA General Counsel.
  • Design and implement training programs for internal partners.

Your Profile

Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree is preferred; A minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience in software license compliance within a software company. Proven track record in designing and managing global or complex Software License Compliance programs. Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.

Required Competencies:

  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to convey complex compliance matters clearly.
  • Proficiency in Windows OS, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of customer databases, order entry portals, and software pricing structures.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to risk assessment.
  • Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective time management and leadership skills to support team success.

Location

Flexible within the United States, preferably on east coast time however international applications are accepted.
