Sandvik Mining & Rock Solutions (SMR) is a leading supplier in equipment and tools, services and technical solutions for the mining and construction industries. To our Rock Tools division and to our Production Technology department at Patancheru plant (Hyderabad), we are now looking for a Head – Production Technology to join us

Your scope:

Responsible for overseeing all Production Technology (Manufacturing engineering) activities within the organization. This role involves strategic planning, leadership, and management of the manufacturing engineering team to ensure the efficient production of high-quality products. Drives cross functional collaboration, continuous improvement initiatives, implement best practices, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

To be more specific, your main responsibilities to handle in this position are:

  • Ensure compliance with environment, health and safety standards in the process and equipment's
  • Implement and maintain best practices for safety and regulatory compliance. Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate Sandvik leadership model and adhere to Sandvik Core Values in day-to-day activities.
  • Manage and develop a high-performing technology team to deliver the results.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing engineering strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • New product development in coordination with Product line, R&D team and ensure to deliver in liaison with internal/external stake holders.
  • Responsible for Master data management for ERP SAP S4/HANA – MBOM / BOP / MCN in TC/MDG/SAP and standards for manufacturing.
  • Responsible for PLM – Team centre / CAD&CAM – UG NX activities in the Production unit.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes meets productivity, product cost, quality and delivery targets.
  • Evaluate and mitigate risks and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement lean manufacturing principles.
  • Optimize cost performance and minimize waste through effective resource management.
  • Responsible for capacity planning and make Vs buy decisions.
  • Responsible for capex planning, forecast and budgeting. Ensure to get budget approvals through right appropriation requests.
  • Oversee and manage engineering projects from conception to completion, ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Responsible for plant layout and re-lay outing possibilities for better flow.
  • Support for product quality assurance & control planning with robust manufacturing processes and systems.
  • Supports in suppliers and vendors in establishing the process to meet the product specifications.
  • Ensure constructive cross functional collaboration to deliver the organizational objectives.
  • Drive the digital transformation initiatives to prove the long-term vision of a modern lean-agile manufacturing setup.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies, ensure best practices.
  • Responsible for compliance of integrated management systems - ISO 9001, ISO 45001 & ISO 14001specific to technology role.
  • Drive D&I initiatives and people development.

Your profile:

Our candidate should have hands on in manufacturing engineering processes with at least minimum 15 years relevant experience from a manufacturing engineering organization.

A graduate engineer within mechanical or production engineering is required. You have previously worked with strong EHS cultured organizations, and you understand the importance of a diverse workforce and collaborative settings.

Other required competencies that we find necessary are:

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, lean manufacturing principles, and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Technically strong in Modern machine tools, Equipment and Automation of manufacturing processes
  • In depth knowledge of CNC machining processes, heat treatment, grinding, shot peening, welding and painting.
  • Knowledge of mining products DTH bits, DTH hammers, top hammer bits and rotary bits is an added advantage.
  • New product development - should be able to analyze design for manufacturability and provide inputs to R&D.
  • Capacity planning, make Vs buy decision making and Capex planning
  • Knowledge in PLM – Team centre/CAD&CAM – UG NX, Master data management for ERP SAP S4/HANA - MBOM/BOP/MCN in TC/MDG/SAP
  • Experience in implementation of LEAN manufacturing concepts with leading the VSM and CI structure
  • Well Experienced in designing of control plans, SOP, PFMEA, tooling selection, fixturing designing.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations
  • Certification in lean manufacturing or Six Sigma.
  • Excellent in Project management, problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Positive attitude with strong leadership skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools used in data analytics and MIS
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good skill in MS office.
  • Leading a team to drive the results with a collaborative style
