People and communities

We work to protect and advance people, enabling diversity, equity and inclusion in our business, human rights in our value chain and resilient communities where we work.

As we advance the world through engineering, we aim to have a positive impact on society, including people and communities throughout our value chain.

Our people are at the very heart of our purpose and Sandvik aims to develop a culture that realizes the full potential of our people. We are focused on creating a diverse and inclusive workforce, where innovation and new perspectives can thrive. We support all employees through quickly identifying their talents and providing the right tools for equitable personal growth and career development in a learning culture, so together we can make an impact.

Goal of zero harm

We work to consistently improve our safety culture and to encourage the wellbeing of all our employees. Health and safety is rigorously monitored across our operations and we continuously invest in our safety culture and our goal of zero harm.

Health and safety is a priority in our product development to help create safer working environments. Through our Supplier Code of Conduct, we require our suppliers to ensure the safety of their employees.

Progress during the last years

Our Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR)* was reduced to 3.0 2023 and we undertook several initiatives, such as safety campaigns, to make improvements in this area.

We continued to have diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) high on the agenda and maintained initiatives such as a group-wide DE&I training and various skills development programs.

Sandvik was once again part of the green list in the non-profit foundation Allbright’s assessment of gender distribution at the board and executive management team level in Swedish companies.

Reduction of TRIFR

The TRIFR for 2023 amounted to 3.0. Compared to the baseline (average 2016–2018) it has decreased by 21 percent. Acquisitions continue to negatively impact both TRIFR and LTIFR trends. Regrettably, one fatality was reported.

The table and graph show the development of TRIFR for 2016–2023.

Improving lives

We are committed to promoting decent work in our value chain, to contribute to improving lives. This includes respecting human rights, zero tolerance for forced labour, elimination of child labour and upholding workers’ rights. We are continuously strengthening our due diligence and remediation processes in human rights, and we will take swift action when required.

Our engagement with communities local to Sandvik’s operations is based on our commitment to using our passion and expertise to solve challenges and build skills for the jobs of the future. Our approach is tailored country by country. Across all our communities, our aim is to actively participate through partnerships, education and volunteering to bring our values to life.

Women in managerial positions

Our target is to increase the share of women in managerial positions to one third by 2030. We have a plan in place to accelerate the increase of female managers in the years to come, which is necessary to achieve the 2030 goal.
