General Accountant

Job Summary:
The General Accountant will be responsible for managing financial transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations within our manufacturing environment. This role plays a vital part in supporting the overall financial health of the organization.
Location: North Bay, ON, or Sturgeon Falls, ON (This position has a flexibility to work at our North Bay, or Sturgeon Falls Location)

Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting:
- Assist/Prepare in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, instead of preparation of financial statements.
- Assist in the preparation of budget reports and forecasts.
- General Ledger Management:
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Post journal entries and manage accruals, prepaid expenses, and inter-company transactions.
- Accounts Payable and Receivables:
- Process vendor invoices, ensuring timely and accurate payment.
- Inventory Accounting:
- Monitor and reconcile inventory accounts, ensuring accuracy in cost of goods sold (COGS) calculations.
- Assist in the monthly inventory counts and variance analysis.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, preparing and filing GST/HST returns, and other tax documents as required.
- Support audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Cost Analysis:
- Assist in analyzing manufacturing costs and variances, providing insights to management for decision-making.
- Support the development of standard costing and cost control measures.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounting function and contribute to their implementation.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, sales, and procurement, to gather necessary financial information and support business initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Education: College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation is an asset.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting/ERP software (e.g., Business Central, SAP) and Microsoft Office 365 with strong excel skills.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP and manufacturing cost accounting experience is an asset
- Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a team and adapt to changing priorities.
