Inrock, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sandvik, is one of the world’s largest tooling and service providers serving the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) industry. We provide tools and services to HDD contractors globally to help them install infrastructure pipelines transporting water, sewer, oil, gas, electric, and fiber underneath geological and man-made obstacles.

About the job

In this position, you lead a remote and growing team of Guidance Engineers to provide customers with exceptional service at locations throughout North America. The Guidance Engineers are responsible for setting a bore plan, surveying the land and tracking the location of the drill head below ground and providing instructions to the driller on what maneuvers they need to make to guide the bit along the bore path and stay within a specific set of parameters. You are responsible for scheduling Guidance Engineers, balancing client requirements, borehole challenges and engineer availability while ensuring compliance and alignment with EHS standards. You implement process improvements, follow-up performance, and develop new clients.

You provide expertise and guidance to your team, ensuring world class delivery to our customers on site. You are responsible for a competence development plan for the team, evaluating performance and recruiting when needed. Occasional travel within North America required.

Included in your responsibility:

  • Conduct daily review of all ongoing job files and ensure compliance.

  • Liaise with Guidance Engineers and communicate projects’ details and supply supporting documentation (drawings, directions etc.).

  • Train new Engineers in guidance software, PMR, ABIA, Mud Motor operation, Pressure and AutoCAD.

  • Liaise with UK and Canada Guidance managers where necessary to cover USA demand.

  • Implement process improvements identified by Guidance Director, global Guidance Managers or coming from within the USA Guidance team.

  • Trouble-shoot client issues and provide technical support to Guidance Engineers.

  • Develop new clients.

Who you are

You constantly strive to exceed customer expectations and act on business priorities in an agile way. With a growth mindset and to generate engagement, you strengthen and develop your team and other parties by providing feedback, listening and communicating in an open and honest way. You are a skilled problem-solver with a customer-centric and service-minded approach.

You have an aptitude and interest for developing people as well as a technical interest. Preferably, you either have previous leadership experience or experience from field engineering positions. Customer service experience is advantageous, and you have a college degree or completion of coursework in algebra and trigonometry at high school or college level. Excellent communication skills in English are essential.
